OC Judge Accused Of Waiving Ticket Fines For Friends, Family

SANTA ANA (AP) — An Orange County judge has been accused of waiving fines on traffic tickets for relatives, friends and his pastor.

The state Commission on Judicial Performance made the allegations last week against Superior Court Judge Richard W. Stanford Jr.

He remains on the bench in Fullerton pending a July hearing. If the allegations are found true, the 26-year court veteran could face discipline ranging from admonishment to removal from office.

The commission contends that over the past seven years, Stanford transferred nine traffic cases to his courtroom, entered guilty pleas on behalf of the defendants and waived fines and fees.

His attorney, Paul S. Meyer, told the Orange County Register on Tuesday that the judge realizes he violated conduct standards, apologizes for his actions and will cooperate with the commission.
