Skateboarding Club Becomes A Family For Teens With Autism
ORANGE COUNTY (CBS) — Brandon Charlton is autistic. For years he would would watch other kids skate in skate parks, never daring to try.
But then he met Adam Grijalva.
Brandon and other autistic young adults like him are a part of a club called Skate Connection, a group this skater and special needs teaching assistant started.
"A lot of times when they talk to people, they're very scared to come out with their thoughts," Grijalva said. "Skateboarding gives them that confidence to say what they need to say."
Mohammed Kamal says the skateboard club taught him to conquer his fears.
"It was hard, cause I thought I'd fall off," he said, "but Adam said, 'I'm not gonna let you go, just try it,' so I did."
