Josh Rubenstein's Weather Forecast (April 7)

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — An unseasonably cold system is dropping down the coast toward Southern California.

It's a very dynamic system, but wind and the possibility of a convective storm will be the story.

There may be some scattered light showers with gusty winds Thursday. Wind advisories and warnings will be place throughout the event. Snow levels will be up to about 5,000 feet, but once the low drops overhead, we will see snow levels drop down to 2,000 to 2,500 feet.

This could cause problems on the Grapevine and the 14 Freeway, but due to the lack of available moisture, we aren't expecting much accumulation.

Friday, we will see the best chance for a thunderstorm and hail. Total rainfall in most areas shouldn't be more than .25". However, foothills and some localized spots could get as much as .50". Areas that get a thunderstorm could see a quick, heavy downpour, so the rainfall rate could be impressive in one spot before moving on.

Nevertheless, the most interesting part of this system is how late in the season it is.
