GARDENA (CBS) — Three people were taken into custody after an officer-involved shooting and a chase around Vincent Bell Park in Gardena Wednesday.
Police were in the park at 14708 S. Halldale Ave., near Normandie Avenue, about 4:50 p.m. when they heard shots, said Lt. Steve Prendergast of the Gardena Police Department.
Prendergast said the shooting was witnessed. An officer soon saw a white sport utility vehicle that apparently was involved and a short chase began in and around the park. It ended with three people being detained.
At least two guns were recovered from the vehicle, Prendergast said.
Halldale Avenue between 147th Street and Marine Avenue is closed to traffic until the investigation is completed, Prendergast said.
