2 Dead, 3 Injured In Shootings Near Palm Springs

CATHEDRAL CITY (AP) — Authorities say a man shot three people at a party near Palm Springs, then he and his brother were hit by a car and shot in retaliation.

Cathedral City police said in a statement Sunday that one woman died, the suspected gunman was injured and his brother was killed.

Police allege 31-year-old Gabriel Cardoza pulled out a handgun and opened fire in the front yard at a neighbor's party. He and his brother were walking home when a car purposely hit both of them and multiple people shot them, killing 34-year-old Guillermo Cardoza.

Gabriel Cardoza was in police custody at a hospital recovering from surgery.

Police say 52-year-old Mary Ellen Rodriguez was declared dead at a hospital. The other two shooting victims had serious injuries but were expected to survive.
