Judge Orders Street Racer To Pay Quadriplegic's Medical Bills
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California judge has ordered a street racer to pay the medical bills of a driver paralyzed in a crash.
Aren Aznavoleh was convicted in the January 2009 street race crash that left 38-year-old Rafick Daroosee a quadriplegic.
During a restitution hearing on Wednesday, a Los Angeles judge told Aznavoleh during a restitution hearing that he must pay $277,000 that was paid by the state's Medi-Cal program for Daroosee's care immediately after the crash.
The Los Angeles Times says the judge also told the Glendale man he could be responsible for paying Daroosee's medical care for the rest of the injured man's life.
Prosecutor Susan Navas says Daroosee, the married father of an 8-year-old son, is being cared for at a nursing home.
