Driver Wanted After Hit-And-Run Crash Gravely Injures Man

-->VAN NUYS (CBS) — A hit-and-run driver is wanted Friday for gravely injuring a man in Van Nuys.

The hit-and-run crash happened Thursday night on Victory Boulevard just west of Fulton Avenue, Los Angeles police Lt. Orlando Moreno said.

Moreno says a dark-colored sedan was westbound on Victory when it struck a man who was in the street just west of Fulton Avenue.

"The victim, a Hispanic man between 35 and 45 years old was about 15 to 20 feet west of the crosswalk," Moreno said. "At this time we don't yet know if he was trying to cross the street or was standing in the street when he was hit."

Officers are at the hospital waiting to see if the victim will survive his injuries.

"Right now, he is in grave condition," said Moreno. "His injuries are very serious."

Moreno said the driver never stopped after the accident. And the description of a dark sedan was provided by another driver who saw the accident, stopped and called 9-1-1.

Moreno asked anyone with information to call the LAPD's Valley Traffic Bureau at (818) 644-8000. All tips can be made anonymously.
