Curfew Attempt At Burbank, Van Nuys Airports Fails

BURBANK (CBS) — The House of Representatives have rejected a federal legislative amendment that would have allowed two San Fernando Valley airports to impose nighttime flight curfews to reduce overnight airplane noise.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Pasadena, tried to get the amendment attached to Federal Aviation Administration legislation, but was rebuffed. Schiff says he intends to keep pushing for a curfew that would ban flights at Burbank and Van Nuys airports between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

"These airports should have been permitted to retain the curfews they had in place decades ago, and I am determined to correct this historic inequity," Schiff said. "... I will continue fighting on behalf of the thousands of San Fernando Valley residents who have long sought relief from aviation-related nighttime noise."

The FAA rejected a bid by Bob Hope Airport in Burbank to impose a full nighttime curfew in 2009.
