Man's Legs Severed In Long Beach Train Accident
LONG BEACH (CBS) — A man was hit by a freight train Thursday moring in Long Beach and his legs were severed, authorities said.
A passerby found the injured man about 5:15 a.m. near the tracks east of Cherry Avenue and north of Artesia Boulevard and notified authorities, the Long Beach Fire Department said.
Paramedics took the man, said to be in his 20s, to a hospital where he is in critical condition. Firefighters found the severed limbs, packed them in ice and brought them to the hospital for possible reattachment.
The tracks are not used by passenger trains, officials said. The train did not stop at the location, and an investigation was being conducted.
