ANAHEIM (AP) — Federal authorities will bar an Orange County anesthesiologist from prescribing controlled substances because of his role in a scam to purchase and resell painkillers.
The Orange County Register said Wednesday that Dr. Scott Bickman of Anaheim Hills is accused of letting a plastic surgeon use his prescribing registration number to order Vicodin and other similar drugs in exchange for payment of $2,000 a month. The newspaper says the surgeon, Dr. Harrell Robinson, then sold the drugs to a Santa Ana clinic for $10,000 a month.
The Drug Enforcement Administration will revoke Bickman’s license to prescribe effective April 29.
Robinson surrendered his medical license in 2007 after the California Medical Board accused him of illegally purchasing and selling drugs.
Bickman could face medical board discipline as well, based on the DEA action.
