Homeowners Have Chance To Win $50K 'Home Energy Makeover'

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Homeowners have one more day to enter to win a "home energy makeover" worth as much as $50,000.

Los Angeles County and local utilities are offering rebates to local homeowners who make their homes more energy efficient. These rebates could total as much as $4,500 and does not include the savings on future utility bills.

The partnership expects to help retrofit about 20,000 homes.

A contest to publicize the program boasts a $50,000 grand prize, including solar panels and certification as a "green home." Five runner-ups will win up to $10,000 each in energy and water efficient improvements for their homes.

Home improvements that qualify for rebates and incentives include insulation, sealing, heating, ventilating and air conditioning upgrades, energy-efficient windows and tankless water heaters.
