RIVERSIDE (AP) — A California man is in jail for the stabbing death of a drinking buddy.

Riverside police Sgt. Derwin Hudson says 23-year-old Matthew Joel Estrada was arrested shortly after the Sunday night stabbing. The Riverside man has been booked for investigation murder.

The sergeant says Estrada and another man were drinking together when they began fighting. Hudson says in a news release that Estrada stabbed the man several times and fled.

He was arrested several blocks away.

The wounded man, whose name is being withheld until relatives are notified, was taken to a hospital, where he died.
