Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Murdering Mother In Hemet

HEMET (CBS/AP) — Police in the Riverside County city of Hemet say they found a woman dead in a mobile home and arrested her 41-year-old son on suspicion of murder.

Hemet police said in a statement that a resident of Royal Holiday Mobile Estates called them to say she was concerned because she had not seen the woman for a few days.

Police say officers arrived at the home on Saturday, found 78-year-old Ramona Yungaray dead, and arrested her son, Francisco Martinez.

Detectives were questioning the suspect at police headquarters. It is not clear whether he has hired an attorney.

Neighbor Julia Smith told the Press-Enterprise that police asked her if she had seen Martinez with a knife, or if she had overheard any arguments. She said she knew Martinez and was shocked that he was arrested.

"If someone had told me there was a murder here, he was the last person I would have suspected,' she said.
