Man Accused Of Raping Girl, 6, In Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police say a 6-year-old girl playing hide-and-seek with friends was lured away by a man and attacked.

The incident happened about 7:45 p.m. Friday in Boyle Heights.

Police say 28-year-old Edward Gonzalez promised the girl $50 and took her across the street to Sheridan Elementary School on Cornwell Street. There, Gonzalez allegedly raped her in a janitor's closet.

According to authorities, Gonzalez was tackled by a school janitor and the girl's uncle who went looking for her.

"They didn't know who he was. They didn't know if he had a gun or a knife. I mean it was very brave of them to go after this guy and hold him down for us," Lt. Antonio Zamora of the LAPD said.

KNX 1070's Bill Cooper reports that Gonzalez is a parolee.
