Boy, 3, Dies After Being Found Unconscious On Bus

ALISO VIEJO (CBS) — Police in Aliso Viejo are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy found on a school bus.

The unidentified boy was found slumped over in his wheelchair mid-afternoon Friday by the mother of another child who had gotten on board to take her child off the bus, sheriff's homicide Inspector Dan Salcedo said.

"The mother saw that the boy was unconscious and got the driver who then called 9-1-1, which prompted a response to the scene by sheriff's paramedics units," Salcedo said.

"The driver and the mother of the other child began efforts to resuscitate the boy," Salcedo said. "He was then transported by paramedics to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills where he was later pronounced dead," said Salcedo.

No foul play or criminal activity is suspected in this case, Salcedo said, who added that the driver was interviewed at the scene by sheriff's personnel.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The boy was attending a Dana Point special needs school.

The inspector also said there was no apparent illness involved in the boy's death and his death was unexpected.

"We'll have a better idea of what happened after the autopsy, but we may still need to wait for toxicological test results if the autopsy can't provide a conclusive cause of death," said Salcedo.
