LAKELAND VILLAGE (CBS)  — Sheriff's deputies fatally shot a man Friday while searching for drugs at a residence in Lakeland Village, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The man was shot around 7 a.m., as members of the sheriff's Southwest Corridor Drug Taskforce were serving a narcotics search warrant in the 32000 block of Rome Hill Road, said sheriff's Deputy Courtney Donowho.

The man died at the scene, Donowho said. His identity was withheld.

No officers were injured.

"We don't know what led up to [the shooting]; they are investigating right now," Donowho said.
