The shooting occurred at 11:51 a.m. at Sunset Boulevard and Wilton Place, according to Officer Gregory Baek of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations office.

Paramedics transported the wounded person to a hospital in unknown condition, Baek said. No other injuries were reported.

According to the preliminary investigation, the marshal was conducting a surveillance of a fugitive when the shooting occurred, Baek said.

It was not immediately known if the wounded person was armed.
