Former Beverly Hills Mayor Sentenced For Animal Cruelty

FONTANA (AP) -- Former Beverly Hills mayor Charlotte Spadaro has been sentenced to three years of probation, counseling and community service for misdemeanor animal cruelty.

The 69-year-old was convicted of keeping 180 dogs and cats in unsanitary conditions without proper care at a Rialto home she used as a rescue shelter from 2004 to 2005.

She was also ordered to deliver all but three of her animals to designated facilities and provide the court with proof she had done so. Spadaro was also ordered Tuesday in San Bernardino County Superior Court in Fontana to pay $180 restitution and finish community service.

She is due in court May 27 to prove she is in counseling.
