Heavy Rains Cause Part Of Highway 74 To Fall Away

LAKE ELSINORE (CBS) —  Heavy rains caused part of the Ortega (74) Highway west of Lake Elsinore to fall away and crews will need to shut down a lane Tuesday to make repairs, a Caltrans official said today.

A gaping hole abuts the south side of the highway at mile marker 9.6. where a section of the shoulder gave way, according to Caltrans spokeswoman Terri Kasinga.

From 8:30 a.m to noon on Tuesday, crews will be fortifying the site, requiring one lane to be closed. One-way traffic control will be in force during that time, Kasinga said.

According to the Caltrans spokeswoman, similar hazards developed on the Orange County side of the Ortega during the storms. Repairs there are impacting west- and east-bound traffic on the two-lane highway.
