Coast Guard spokesman Adam Eggers said a rescue swimmer was lowered from a helicopter Sunday to the deck of the sailboat to check on the two adults and two children who were aboard. They were transferred safely to a harbor patrol boat and brought ashore.

Winds were gusting at about 40 mph and the sea was swelling as high as eight feet in the area as a storm passed over the Central Coast.

By late Sunday morning rainfall totals across the region ranged from about a half inch to up to 2 inches.
