Calif. GOP Denounces Schwarzenegger Clemency

SACRAMENTO (AP) — The California Republican Party has denounced the decision by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to commute the sentence of the son of a political ally.

The resolution approved Sunday by delegates attending the state party’s convention condemns the former Republican governor’s action, which reduced the prison sentence from 16 years to seven for Esteban Nunez. He is the son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, a Democrat, and pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the 2008 stabbing death of a college student in San Diego.

Schwarzenegger’s action during his final night in office angered the San Diego County district attorney and enraged the victim’s family. Neither was notified beforehand.

The resolution condemns the commutation and “the manner in which it was done.” A Schwarzenegger spokesman said the former governor declined comment.

If they really want to do something, they can assist the family of the victim in their lawsuit to declare the commutation illegal and have the sentence reinstated.

Esteban, you may clean up nice, yet you are still another knife wielding, low life.

Congratulations on your parenting skills Fabian. You may have made a better life for yourself (brown nosing) but your son actions remains to be one of the biggest problems in the City/State you are sworn to protect. Brainless, weapon carrying pieces of bandini!

I have to agree, the instant this public official offspring was involved in a brutal senseless killing, the bearer must be held accountable, especially if recieving tax payer office money.Arnold is a washedup 2-bit second rate hollywood puppet.Steriod usage in the vain attempt to self-masculanate ones physicall image is obviously apparent in our idiotic governator!!

Arnold sure sold out on this one. He should have stayed out of this and let justice run it’s course.

I am not sure I understand the anger. If I am not mistaken, all parties agreed that Esteban did not handle the knife, did not strike any blows and mainly was an onlooker while some low-life acquaintances committed the crime. He was certainly an accessory but did he have a prior record? If not, the commuted sentence sounds about right.

Like they say, “You are who you hang with.”

Now we know 2 things Arnold can’t do. One is acting……
