Woman Shot By Police In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBS) – Police shot a woman who was allegedly stabbing a man with a sharp object in Long Beach today.

According to Long Beach Police, officers responded to the 3100 block of Pine Avenue around 3 p.m. on the report of a person screaming. Upon arrival, they saw a female attacking a male with a sharp object. The officer then ordered the female to drop the weapon, but she continued attacking the victim.

"At that time the officer deployed a Taser device, but it was ineffective. At this time an officer-involved shooting occurred," said Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department.

Police say the suspect and victim were both taken to hospital. The woman was in extremely critical condition and the man was in critical but stable condition.

Long Beach police Deputy Chief Robert Luna told ABC7 the relationship between the man and woman was unknown.
