Former Fire Captain Guilty Of Second-Degree Murder

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — A former Los Angeles fire captain has been found guilty of killing a homeless woman whose body was dumped on an Eagle Rock street in the summer of 2006.

David Del Toro faces 25 years to life in state prison.

Prosecutors say Del Toro, a 23-year fire veteran, beat and strangled acquaintance Jennifer Flores at his Eagle Rock home in August 2006 and dumped her nude body on the street a mile away.

Del Toro denied trying to have sex with her and says he doesn’t remember killing her. His lawyers argued that he blacked out from alcohol and exhaustion after a grueling 36-hour shift and couldn’t have killed her.

Blacked out from alcohol and exhaustion? That’s a good one…

  • fish wrap

Yeah an exhausting 36 hour shift. Half of that was sleeping and the other watching tv

    Waste of a good job!

I thought 36 hours was normal for firefighters… many straight days onshift and then so many straight days off. Put him in prison and then forget he’s there…

CBS should be ashamed of themselves for this poor excuse of a story. First of all she wasn’t homeless she was his ex-girlfriend NOT just an acquaintance. And he also dragged her body behind his truck for a few blocks before he was done with her!!!
Lock him up and throw away the key!!!

    • Lenny

And I suppose you know him??
You’ve been watching to much Rescue Me!!! Next you will be telling us Tommy Gavin is coming for dinner!!
      Get real lady!!!!

Where the hell are you getting your info? I’ve known David for years. She was not his girlfriend and she was homeless. where was her family? Now they are trying to pretend they are going to miss her? They are the ones who should lose sleep at night in guilt for turning their backs on her when she was strung out on drugs looking for a place to sleep. So much so she begged someone she barely knew to give her a place to sleep for the night. The only thing David did wrong was open his door to the wrong person. You people need to get a life. You don’t know him and you don’t know all the facts. The media only reports the negative and not the real facts. No physical evidence to link him to the murder, no murder weapon, no prints, no blood splatter and a tainted jury? This all spells mistrial to me. This is not over people. Apparently we live in a country where one is guilty until proven innocent but then no one listens to the truth.

how can he deny anything if he can’t remember anything?did her family turn her back on her?, do you know that for a fact?it is all negative, for everyone concerned:( and the fact that there was evidence, there was blood spatter, and you seem to know all the facts, did you testify at his trial, if not , why not, maybe you could have saved him from this terrible injustice
