Mel Gibson Completes Booking Paperwork In El Segundo

EL SEGUNDO (CBS) — Mel Gibson went to the El Segundo Police Department Wednesday night for finger printing and booking paperwork connected to a misdemeanor battery charge.

The actor/director arrived at the station with his lawyer, Blair Berk, about 9:30 p.m. and was released at 10 p.m., Sgt. Dean Howard of El Segundo Police Department said.

Gibson pleaded no contest to a battery charge stemming from a 2010 run-in with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva on Friday. He was sentenced to three years probation, ordered to complete a one-year domestic-violence counseling program, as well as separate mental health counseling.

Judge Stephanie Sautner also directed him to complete 16 hours of community service with Mending Kids International, which provides surgical care to children. Gibson's estranged wife is on the nonprofit group's board of directors. The actor must pay $570 in fines and court costs.

A three-year protective order was issued to keep Gibson away from Grigorieva.

"I have a good grasp of everything my attorney has discussed with me," Gibson told Sautner when asked if he understood his plea.

The actor and his attorney stressed during the court hearing that Gibson entered the plea to resolve the case for his young daughter, Lucia, but he was not admitting guilt.
