Vietnam Veteran In Wheelchair Mugged In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBS) — A 41-year-old man was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of mugging a Vietnam veteran in a wheelchair and taking $880 in cash, Santa Ana police said.

Robert Dean Joyce was arrested Tuesday night when the victim identified him a police lineup, officials said.

Michael Shaurette, 62, was going to a Burger King restaurant in the 300 block of East First Street in his wheelchair when Joyce and another man mugged him, police said.

Joyce pinned Shaurette’s arms down while the other robber rummaged through his belonging, taking the $880.

Santa Ana police issued a bulletin about the suspects, and two Tustin police officers who saw it went to a motel in Tustin and found Joyce out front.

The at-large suspect was described as black, 20-25 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches and 175 pounds.

The Santa Ana Police Foundation is accepting donations on Shaurette’s behalf. Log onto their website for more information.

  • Anti-Santa Ana

Now that’s sad the guy is a friggin’ wheelchair. Talk about no morals. It’s bad enough that you’re committing a crime and robbing someone…but in a wheelchair???

Then again we’re talking about Santa Ana, it’s the South Central of Orange County.

these punks are cowards.punks like these prey on the weak. Now knowing that we live in a time where unemployment is high. People are turning into crimminals. Also knowing that the city of Santa Ana, is a town of illegals, awhole lotta drug addicts, and people just don’t give a rats-a—-s, for there neighbor. Why would this war vet, in a wheelchair be rolling around with $880.00 in his posession. Why? If you don’t trust the banks. Well then put your money under the mattress. TRUST NO ONE MY FREIND!

Somethings fishy.Who goes to B.K. with 880.I think he had 88 dollars.Could be a drug deal gone awry. The second suspect will meet Karma. As to physically rob a senior citizen who is wheelchair bound is sub-human.If the situation were reversed we would have Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton screaming bloody murder all over T.V. and newspapers.

He probably just cashed his Social Security check and was going to treat himself to a burger since it looks like he hasn’t eaten much lately. Poor guy can’t afford to live in a nicer city because our government doesn’t take care of our country’s veterans. They would rather spend our countries money on other countries disasters and problems. Sad! Our country is in dire need of financial help right now and I don’t see any other countries with America Aid/Relief funds!
These 2 thugs deserve a harsher punishment for committing this crime on a disabled Veteran for sure! And (drozone69) you are right, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be a couple screaming idiots right about now if the situation were reversed!
What has this country come to?!

      • Jarhead BAM

        AMEN, LISA… I AGREE!!!

      • David D Brohard

Very sad how our veterans are treated..I am a new Veteran from the Iraqi campaign and most times I try not to even mention it, because nobody cares much.. I bet my money if he wasnt disabled he would have put a whoopin on one of those two.

Poor man, I hope they catch the other useless piece of nothing. People who do things like this are useless and need to be euthanized. Some people may think I’m being to harsh but to you I say I don’t really care. People who care too much about the criminals need to be euthanized too, I’m sorry but your useless if you do.

  • Rick

Worthless piles. I went and donated for the guy. He served us, we can give alittle back!!

  • Jack Sherratt

Just donated $50. It’s not much, but I hope it helps a little. Man….where have all the good people gone?

  • Rick

” Where are the good people at”?? Your right here Jack Sherratt!!
I did the same thing through SAPD. Good on them to care about this man that served our country. Also, good eye by Tustin PD.
Hope Joyce gets his butt kicked good!
