Disney To Give $2.5M For Earthquake Relief In Japan

BURBANK (CBS) — The Walt Disney Co. says they will give $2.5 million to the American Red Cross to support earthquake relief efforts in Japan.

"Our hearts go out to the people of Japan," Disney President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger said. "We send our continued thoughts of support and encouragement as this great nation begins the long road to recovery."

Burbank-based Disney, which operates a theme park in Tokyo, also said it would match dollar-for-dollar all relief funds raised by Disney employees up to $1 million. Proceeds will go to the Red Cross, the Pacific Tsunami Fund and Save the Children.

Gail McGovern, the head of the American Red Cross, said the donation would help "provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need."
