GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Casey Blake is expected to be sidelined for a few days because of an injury to a muscle near the back of his rib cage.

Blake said Sunday before the Dodgers played a split-squad game against the Chicago White Sox at Camelback Ranch that he does not know if the injury is serious.

The Dodgers initial thought Blake injured his lower back bunting Saturday but Blake said it’s more in the rib area.

The Dodgers medical staff plans to monitor Blake’s condition as he undergoes treatment for the next couple of days.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had planned to give the 37-year-old Blake more days off in an attempt to avoid injury.
