Marine Corps Reservist Subdues Suspect With Stun Gun

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities in San Diego say a Marine Corps reservist chased a suspected purse-snatcher for a quarter mile then used a stun gun to subdue him.

San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali said Saturday that a 54-year-old woman had her purse snatched Thursday by a man in the parking lot of a shopping center in the Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood.

After hearing the woman scream, the reservist chased the suspect for several blocks, eventually using a stun gun to zap him. Cali says the reservist kept the suspect under control until police arrived.

Cali says 24-year-old Brendan Eads was arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail on grand theft charges.

City News Service reports Eads was treated for minor injuries. The woman was not hurt.

The name of the reservist was not released.
