NPR CEO Resigns After Another Executive Calls Tea Party ‘Racist’

WASHINGTON (AP) — NPR president and CEO Vivian Schiller has resigned in the wake of comments by a fellow executive that angered conservatives and renewed calls to end federal funding for public broadcasting.

The chairman of NPR’s board of directors announced Wednesday morning that he has accepted Schiller’s resignation, effective immediately.

NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik said in a tweet that Schiller was forced out by the board.

A hidden-camera video of an NPR executive calling the tea party racist and saying the network would be better off without federal money has led to that executive’s immediate resignation.

    Unfortunately these CEOs were expressing their personal beliefs, rightfully so, under the guise of a fictitious interview…and it cost them their job.

    What happened to right of speech? The CEOs words are not incitatory! Unlike the teabaggers who have been caught being spewing racism and have provoked national tragedy with their gun-toting slogans, these CEOs have a right to peacefully state their opinions!

    Now the Republicans and tea baggers are offended and hurt! Of course you will capitalize on this–why should we expect less from the likes of you?

    NPR wants to appear unbiased, but they just proved that money can buy opinions! I won’t listen to NPR any longer!! Hypocrites!

        @bill
        nothing I said was two faced. I simply used the name these racists have come to be known by.

        I’m not a liberal, by the way.
        Use your brain moron, THINK!! aha! Theres a novel idea!

    I don’t understand the problem here. We’ve known for two years that the tea party is racist. That’s like getting into trouble for saying the sky is blue.

    1. Mufon says:

      Racist? That’s said a lot, do you have proof? Adn isn’t “teabaggers” grossly anti-gay?

      1. Right to opine says:

        @mufon
        what proof do you need? Open a newspaper–read it on the net!

        If “teabaggers” is anti-gay– then that’s the first Ive heard of that!
        But maybe you happen to be in the know.
