Voters Go To The Polls Tuesday

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Voters in several Los Angeles County cities, including those in the embattled city of Bell, will head to the polls Tuesday.

Despite the city's small size, Bell's special election will probably front and center due to the city's recent troubles. Bell voters will decide whether to recall Mayor Oscar Hernandez, City Council members Teresa Jacobo, George Mirabal, and former member Luis Artiga, all of whom face criminal charges of raiding city coffers by giving themselves exorbitant salaries.

Bell voters will also decide who will replace three of those city council members. One of those candidates, Miguel Alejandro Sanchez, 34, died Friday of an unknown ailment, but his name remains on the ballot. Sanchez was seeking Artiga's seat, KNX 1070's Chris Sedens reported.

Los Angeles residents in even-numbered districts will also decide who will represent them Tuesday. Campaign literature in the race for District 8 featuring the names of several dead dignitaries in support of incumbent Bernard C. Parks recently became fodder for race watchers.

Voters will also decide on several ballot measures and who will be Los Angeles Unified School District's board members, which Mayor Villaraigosa told KNX 1070's Ed Mertz was the most important item on Tuesday's ballot.
