MORENO VALLEY (CBS) — A 74-year-old man was fatally struck Tuesday by a pickup truck in Moreno Valley, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Pedro Nunez Suazo was pushing a shopping cart across the street when he was hit by a Chevrolet S-10 at Perris Boulevard and Myers Avenue, according to officials.
The accident occured about 4:30 a.m. as Suazo crossed the street from west to east, sheriff’s Sgt. Jacqueline Horton said.
“Mr. Suazo appeared to have been attempting to cross Perris Boulevard mid-block when he was struck,” she said.
A sheriff’s investigation determined the driver, who cooperated with deputies, was not impaired, Horton said.
Perris Boulevard was closed to traffic in both directions between Fir and Eucalyptus avenues until shortly after noon for the investigation, which was continuing, Horton said.
