Ducks Sign Sbisa To 4-Year, $8.7 Million Extension
ANAHEIM (AP) -- The Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Luca Sbisa to a four-year contract extension worth $8.7 million.
The Ducks announced the deal Tuesday for Sbisa, the 21-year-old Swiss defenseman who made a quantum leap forward in his development over the past several months.
Sbisa says he's thrilled to stay in Anaheim through the 2014-15 season.
Anaheim acquired Sbisa from Philadelphia in a deal for former MVP Chris Pronger in 2009, but Sbisa didn't develop into a full-time NHL player until this winter.
Sbisa has two goals and six assists in 52 games for the Ducks, averaging nearly 16 1/2 minutes per game.
He's among the Ducks' most physical defensemen, ranking second on the club with 131 hits.
