Costa Mesa Police Chief Resigns
COSTA MESA (CBS) Costa Mesa Police Chief Christopher Shawkey resigned Tuesday, according to city officials.
Shawkey's resignation was effective immediately, officials said. Shawkey had been on administrative leave since November.
Former City Manager Allan Roeder, who left office last week, did not give police a reason for Shawkey's leave when he announced it in November.
Shawkey joined the Costa Mesa department in December 2006. He previously worked for 26 years in the Phoenix, Ariz. police department.
City officials will start recruiting a new chief and Capt. Lester Gogerty will continue to serve as acting chief.
