7 Current, Former San Bernardino County Sheriff's Staffers Indicted

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — Seven current and former members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department have been indicted on charges including conspiracy, perjury and grand theft.

Six of the defendants were arraigned Tuesday in San Bernardino Superior Court on allegations they falsified training records to be eligible for increased compensation and retirement benefits.

The San Bernardino Sun newspaper reports that five pleaded not guilty, while a sixth defendant requested to postpone entering a plea until Friday.

A seventh person did not show up and will have a bench warrant issued for his arrest if he does not appear in court Friday.

The alleged thefts range from $2,000 to $15,000 per defendant.

The six deputies were released on their own recognizance pending further court hearings.
