68-Year-Old Tasered, Shot With Bean Bags In Fight With LAPD

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Los Angeles Police Department said Monday that they arrested a 68-year-old man Friday after he attempted to ram several police cars with his vehicle.

The violent confrontation included three police officers using Tasers on the man as well as shooting him with beanbags.

The incident began around 4:45 a.m. Friday in an area of Los Angeles near Culver City, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Michael Lasky suffered fractures around his eyes and two broken ribs as police subdued him with bean bag shots and Tasers, according to the LAPD.

LAPD officers from Pacific Division attempted to stop Lasky's car after they allegedly witnessed him driving erratically. A chase ensued and officers reported that Lasky made a U-turn and attempted to ram several police cars with his vehicle.

Police finally used a PIT maneuver to force his car to a stop at the intersection of Elenda and Arizona avenues in Culver City, officials said.

Lasky was ordered out of his car but refused to comply with the order, police said. Officers then broke the car's driver- and passenger-side windows and again ordered him to exit his car.

LAPD officers Osmani Baeza, Efrem Hunter and Brittany Borja then shot Lasky with their Taser guns and Officer Walter Leiva then shot Lasky twice with bean bags, police said.

During the confrontation, officers alleged that Lasky repeatedly ordered his pit bull dog to attack the police. It is unknown if the dog followed Lasky's direction, and there's no report of the officers shooting the dog with their weapons.

After Lasky was finally subdued, Culver City paramedics transported him to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, the LAPD reported. Lasky was then booked for "assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle on a police officer," the LAPD reported.

LAPD's West Traffic Division was handling the assault with a deadly weapon investigation and the department's Force Investigation Division was conducting the use of force by the officers, the LAPD reported.
