Reported Kidnapping At UC Irvine Called 'Family Intervention'

IRVINE (CBS) — A reported kidnapping on the campus of UC Irvine Friday is now being called a "family intervention."

A white man in his 60s with gray hair drove up to the Crawford Hall Administration in a white Chevy Astro van at about 11 a.m. and abducted a white woman in her 20s, UC Irvine spokesman Tom Vasich said.

"When she was being pulled into the van she cried, 'Call 911,' " Vasich said.

Investigators have some leads on the identity of the abducted woman but could not say if she was a student. The woman was kidnapped in front of the building for coaches and athletes, Vasich said.

After locating the van and interviewing the woman, a UC Irvine employee, it was decided that a crime was not committed.
