2 Nabbed In String Of Riverside Robberies

MISSION GROVE (CBS) — A string of back-to-back residential burglaries in Riverside's affluent Mission Grove neighborhood were allegedly pulled off by two young men, one of whom lived in the area, a police lieutenant said Friday.

Evan Blake Lamar and Scotty Joe Short, both 19, were arrested Monday on suspicion of burglary and theft on the same day as the break-ins, according to Lt. Victor Williams.

He said the burglaries were concentrated in the 200 block of Alessandro Boulevard, where Short resides with his family.

According to Williams, one of the suspects would scout possible empty houses and then alert his alleged partner in crime. The suspects reportedly accessed properties by breaking a window or forcing open a rear door, the lieutenant said.

Short was detained by officers around 11:30 p.m. Monday after he was spotted allegedly casing a home in the area of Alessandro and Trautwein Road, Williams said.

A search of the suspect's home turned up a firearm stolen during one burglary, he said.

Lamar was identified as Short's alleged cohort, and investigators recovered a stolen "television, laptop computers, jewelry and various personal electronic devices" from his home in the 3600 block of Beechwood Place, according to Williams.

Both suspects were booked into Riverside County jail. Short posted a $5,000 bond and was released Tuesday. Lamar posted a $25,000 bond and was released the same day.
