Local Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The U.S. Defense Department says an attack using an improvised bomb has killed a soldier from California who was assigned to Fort Polk, Louisiana and serving in Afghanistan.

A news release says 22-year-old Specialist Rudolph R. Hizon, of Los Angeles, died Feb. 28, in Logar province, when insurgents attacked his unit using the explosive device.

Hizon was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Polk.
