SAN DIEGO (AP) – Landon Donovan and David Beckham gave Los Angeles Galaxy fans plenty of reason to cheer, even though Club Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente defeated the Major League Soccer team 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night.

The club from Mexico’s Liga de Ascenso won the shootout 4-3 at Torero Stadium.

The Galaxy trailed 1-0 on a goal from Gilberto Mora when Beckham sent a corner kick that was redirected past goalie Zemeno in the 41st minute to tie the game. Donovan then gave Los Angeles a 2-1 lead in the 75th when he converted a pass from Chris Burchall.

The Mexican club rallied in the 82nd minute when Miguel Lopez converted a penalty kick, and the game eventually went to a shootout.

Oscar Otreras beat Galaxy goalie Donovan Ricketts with the winner.
