Shouting Match At LA City Hall Over Vernon Corruption
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A meeting at City Hall erupted into a shouting match on Tuesday over the campaign to wipe out corruption in the city of Vernon by getting rid of the city itself.
KNX 1070's John Brooks reports as the Los Angeles City Council debated support of legislation by Assembly Speaker John Perez to disincorporate Vernon, supporters from both sides of the issue unleashed a verbal volley.

Speaker Perez dismisses claims by Vernon businesses that fear the influence of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors might be worse that what they currently have.
"It is never acceptable to say that the cost of business surviving is to allow for corruption to take hold," Perez said.
Vernon has been controlled by a single family since being incorporated in 1905.
While 55,000 people work in Vernon, only about one hundred handpicked people live locally.
