Legionnaires' Disease Possibly Linked To Playboy Mansion Outbreak

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — County health officials may be closer to identifying the bacteria that may have made hundreds sick at a recent event at the Playboy Mansion.

KNX 1070's Chris Sedens reports investigators say the bacteria was traced back to a water source at the Hugh Hefner residence.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Legionella bacteria, which causes Legionnaires' disease, is among the possible sources behind the outbreak in February.

Officials say that other bacteria or viruses have not been ruled out since Legionella bacteria is commonly found in moist environments.

Organizers of the event are urging those who attended to fill out a confidential survey to assist health officials with their investigation.
