SUN VALLEY (CBS) — A 17-year-old girl, who died in a car crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley, was identified Saturday as a North Hollywood resident.

Arlette Cruz was ejected from the front passenger seat of a 1991 Honda Accord about 1:50 p.m. Friday on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway north of Sheldon Street, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.

Cruz was with an 18-year-old driver from Sun Valley, whose name was withheld, Martin said. That driver was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, he said.

If it would have been adults in this accident you wouldn’t be saying that IT WAS JUST ADULTS WHO DONT SEEM TO CARE, so if you don’t know exactly what happened, don’t be making these types of comments. It was an accident, not anyone being careless!!!!

  11. Kat says:

Its so disappointing that some people have no compassion over the simple loss of life. Its always a blame instead ; “TEENS WHO DONT SEEM TO CARE HOW HAZARDOUS THE ROADS ARE ” – don’t make a generalization. Any driver sure does and i’m sure no one would appreciate inhumane comments being made over a loved one like that.
RIP Arlette, Heaven has welcomed another angel.

  12. Mom says:

So sorry for your loss. It is not so much carlessness as it is inexperience for young drivers. I’m sure the driver was doing the best they could in the rain and in this crazy traffic. It seems the driver was also injured and I pray that they are ok and will be able to understand that it was just a tragic accident. That is why I put my son in a mini van when he was 18. He has been involved in 2 accidents and thank God he and his passenger are fine and so are the other car passengers. I felt that he would be safer and so would his friends. We live in Los Angeles and accidents are an everyday occurence, I’m sad to say. Be careful out there everbody. God Bless and take care of each other the best you can.

  13. friend says:

she was NOT speeding. she is a responsible person and did her best to control the car. the poor girl is mortified. dont need anyones UNIFORMED assumptions. she still is trying to find out what happened that made the car lose control. it is appreciated that no one make snap judgements about something they DONT know about.
