Woman Arrested In Theft Of Kids' Jewelry
MONTEBELLO (AP) — A Southern California woman is under arrest on suspicion of stealing religious jewelry from children.
Belinda Berumen, 42, was arrested Wednesday by Montebello police for grand theft. She was released on $25,000 bail.
Police officials tell the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that Berumen is suspected of stealing gold jewelry featuring Christian symbols from five first- and second-graders at Washington Elementary School.
Her child attends the school.
Investigators believe Berumen would offer to hold the jewelry while the children played or would tell them there was something wrong with the items and she would fix them.
