Details Released On 1970 Killing Of Latino Anti-War Journalist
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — More than 40 years after a Los Angeles County Sheriff's sergeant shot and killed a prominent Mexican-American journalist, the Sheriff's Department has released never-before-seen information on the killing.
As KNX 1070's Ed Mertz reports, the department's Office of Independent Review released new info on Tuesday.

Ruben Salazar was a prominent Latino journalist working for KMEX-TV. He was in a bar during an anti-Vietnam War rally that ended in a clash between protesters and deputies.
The tear gas projectile killed Salazar at age 42.
Because Salazar had reported on allegations of abuse in the Latino community, some claimed his killing was deliberate.
The report says deputies made tactical blunders leading up to the killing, and the department's stonewalling afterward fueled skepticism.
Despite eight boxes full of new info, there's still no information about whether Salazar was targeted for being a critic of the Los Angeles Police Department.
