Lawyer Gloria Allred Calls For Probe Into Soldier's Escape

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A lawyer for the 15-year-old victim of an alleged sexual assault by an Army private is asking for an investigation into how the soldier was able to escape from military custody on his way from Georgia to California to face trial.

Gloria Allred said Monday that the Los Angeles County teen and her family are waiving their rights to privacy in the case so they can publicly express their concerns about the Army's handling of 20-year-old Daniel Brazelton's extradition.

Brazelton prompted a nationwide manhunt when he escaped from military custody in Georgia on Feb. 11 as he was being returned to jail following a medical appointment. He was arrested Friday night at a motel in Daytona Beach, Florida.

A message left with the Army's public affairs department was not returned.
