Skies Begin To Clear As Winter Storm Moves East
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Showers around Los Angeles are possible Sunday morning, but forecasters say the winter storm that has kept the region wet for the past two days is moving east.
National Weather Service forecasters put the chance of morning showers at 20 percent with the skies expected to start clearing by afternoon.
Sunday's highs will be hard-pressed to break out of the 50s and winds out of the southwest are expected to peak around 15 mph. Snow fell at elevations as low as about 3,500 feet, but the Grapevine section of Interstate 5 north of Los Angeles remained open overnight.
Before rain moved in early Wednesday, downtown Los Angeles had recorded only 0.79 inch of precipitation since Jan. 1. That was 4.51 inches below normal for the period.
The wet week has been a departure from the dry, summerlike winter weather Southern California has seen so far this year.
