Armed Man Who Ran From Traffic Stop Fatally Shot

ALTADENA (CBS/AP) — Authorities say a deputy fatally shot a man who ran from a traffic stop in Altadena, then reached for a gun when he was caught.

The shooting, which occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday, took place at New York Drive and Lake Avenue after deputies pulled over a car with two men inside, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Pope said.

One of the men took off running and was caught by deputies. Pope says as the suspect fought with deputies, he reached for a gun in his waistband and was shot.

City News Service reports the man died at the scene. His name was not released.

Officials did not say why the car was pulled over or what happened to the other man.
