Anaheim Rapist Convicted For Multiple Assaults

LOS ANGELES (CBS) - A 42-year-old man already facing a life term for raping three women in Sacramento County nearly 10 years ago faces another 25 years to life next month when he will be sentenced for raping a teenager in Anaheim in 1997.

George Eugene Cross was found guilty Wednesday of raping a 17-year-old girl in her Anaheim apartment, Deputy District Attorney Robert Mestman said.  Cross, who is scheduled to be sentenced March 17, faces 25 years to life in prison.  He was already serving a 55-year to life in prison term for raping three women in Sacramento in 2002 and a sexual battery conviction in Long Beach in 1995.

Cross knocked on the door of the Anaheim apartment where the then-17- year-old victim lived Dec. 30, 1997, and talked his way in by saying the girl's mother owed him money.  Investigators do not know how he got the mother's name, but he did not know the victim or her mother.  Cross then choked the victim and forced her to undress before he raped her.

The case went cold until 2003 when his DNA was entered into a national database because of his rape conviction in Sacramento County.  If Cross ever finishes serving his sentence in Sacramento County, he will begin serving his time for the Orange County conviction.
