Virgin America To Begin Service From O'Hare To LAX, San Francisco

CHICAGO (AP) — Virgin America Airlines says it will begin daily non-stop flights from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

San Francisco-based Virgin has been trying to establish service at O'Hare since 2008. It has been stymied by its inability to lease gates at the airport from other airlines.

In announcing the start of Virgin America service on May 25, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley said Thursday the city is committed to bringing more airlines to O'Hare and investing in the airport's infrastructure.

Virgin CEO David Cush noted that flyers from O'Hare to Los Angeles and San Francisco have few choices and few low fare options. He said with Virgin competing at O'Hare, a hub for American and United airlines, consumers will win with lower fares and better service.
