LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Authorities Wednesday identified a man who was fatally shot by an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer while allegedly trying to carjack the officer at gunpoint in the Harbor Gateway area.

Miguel Sanchez, Jr., 21, died at the scene, said coroner’s Chief Craig Harvey.

The shooting happened about 11:50 p.m. Monday at Denker Avenue and 224th Street, the LAPD reported. The officer was uninjured.

The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.

THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE PROVING THAT CITIZENS SHOULD HAVE THE OPTION TO BE LEGALY ARMED; THE BAD GUYS ARE OBVIOUSLY ARMED. HAD THEN BEEN YOU OR I, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. I AM GLAD THE POLICE OFFICER WAS ABLE TO DEFEND HIMSELF FROM A RANDOM ACT OF VIOLENCE, NOW ITS TIME WE HAVE THAT OPTION TOO.
